Description
Original 1917 French lithograph commissioned to support a fundraising event held in Paris on January 21 to benefit war widows and orphans. The image shows a blind war veteran, accompanied by his family, saluting at the grave of a fallen family member who also served in the war. Artist is Lucien Jonas, an illustrator and painter known for military subjects and who contributed numerous other poster designs to the war effort. As with most one-off fundraising events, the print run of publicity posters was smaller than those for national bond drives, making it rarer and more valuable. Poster dimensions are 47 x 31 inches. Newly linen backed (10 oz cotton canvas + 100 lb cotton paper) and acid-neutralized. Very good condition. Poster lies perfectly flat; straight edges; strong colors; faint traces of old fold lines; light uneven toning at top left corner. Poster will ship rolled in a hard tube. Flat shipping for US lower 48. International buyers pay actual shipping via a service of their choice. Please see my other current auctions of French and American WW I posters, as well as my feedback on previous poster sales. Combined shipping on multiple purchases.
