    Description

    Original 1918 French lithograph supporting
"L'Emprunt de la Libération" (The Liberation Loan)
, a bond drive held in November-December 1918 at the end of the First World War. The image shows German Kaiser Wilhelm II kneeling with a broken sword, suggesting surrender, in front of a wave of Allied flags (note the prominence of the French and American flags). Artist is Abel Faivre, by far the most famous French poster designer of the war. He contributed numerous other posters to the war effort, working in particular on commission for the Crédit Lyonnais, one of France's oldest banks. Poster dimensions are 44 x 31 inches
. Newly linen backed (10 oz cotton canvas + 100 lb cotton paper) and acid-neutralized. Excellent condition. Poster lies perfectly flat; straight edges; strong colors; no fold lines. Poster will ship rolled in a hard tube. Flat shipping for US lower 48. International buyers pay actual shipping via a service of their choice. Please see my other current auctions of French and American WW I posters, as well as my feedback on previous poster sales. Combined shipping on multiple purchases.
